New guy looking to buy an F150

    Hi,

I am a ford guy. I use to drive a 2002 mustang GT until last Wednesday when an explorer ran a red light and T-boned my baby. Long story short I need a new vehicle. My dad has owned 2 f150s and I have loved them both. He currently is driving a F150 XLT super crew. I love that truck and am in the market for one as well. Problem is I had no clue as to how many damn options there are for these trucks. I'm looking for advice on picking out my new (used) truck.

I'm a big fan of forums and hope to provide help to others once I learn more.

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear the circumstances that are making you find a new vehicle. As for trucks though, glad you're sticking with Ford and you have come to the right place. Since you're going used, what is your price range of how much you want to spend. From there we can help you.

I'm looking to spend around 30k, but if I can go less than that would be great.

I don't own a trailer or plan to haul anything anytime soon. I do hunt though, so 4x4 is a must.

In a huge fan of the Lariat models but they have some rather hefty price tags.

Ok Lariats are nice, they have leather and upgraded technology inside, great choice. What model years do you like, the 04-08's, or the current models, 09-13's?

You should be able to get into a fairly new Lariat for around 30. Just use the net to find a truck you like and negotiate. A good dealer will get you what you want for that.

I have been looking at 2010-12 year models.

I found one on carmax that was damn near fully loaded with 53k on it for 32k. That's the best I've seen in all honesty.

That 32 is just the starting point. I'd be surprised if they would turn down 28. I'd even start at 25 and work to a happy medium.

Yeah the dealers will work with you, you can negotiate a better price, I'd try for that truck.

It's at carmax and they have a no haggle policy. What you see is what you get. Now I I saw that at a dealer maybe I could work it down. Can you guys explain what different models have to offer? Google hasn't been very friendly in helping me figure this out.

Not trying to bad mouth carmax, but id look that thing over really good. I'm just a little skeptical of those type of places.
