If your truck had 5w-20 in it already and you poured 15w-40 it could cause problems so you would need to drain your oil out and put oil of the same velocity in it. And make sure you don't ever mix synthetic with regular oil.

Not at all. It will just change the viscosity. They are all made to API service SN specifications; and (despite the labels and price) most come from the same factory.
If you mixed one quart of 15W-40 with one quart of 5W-20, just do the math: You now have 2 quarts of 18W-30.
And you absolutely can mix conventional and synthetic. Ever hear of Synthetic Blend? (Hint: Motorcraft offers it on the shelf, and is what I use)

Don't pour 15-40.. Just go buy the correct spec oil.. 15-40 causes issues in the 5.4's top ends..

Also it's perfectly fine to switch back and forth between synthetic and conventional.. No problem.. Can also mix them.. Oil has came a long way.
