I'm a do it yourselfer kind of person, but if its something I don't know how to fix and don't dare tinker with I call one of my mechanic uncles.

I take my truck to a local mechanic my family has gone to for years, it's family owned and we know the owners pretty well now. They do great work and have fair prices, so I take my truck there for the basic maintenance stuff, whatever I don't do myself. But when I had my transmission and coolant flushed, I went to Ford. Basically what I'm saying is, I'd go to a mechanic for the small basic stuff, but any major or vital service, take it to Ford because they know you're vehicle the best.

Just go to a dealership that cares and doesn't just treat you like a $ sign.

I see your point. The dealer is so expensive and the service writers are commissioned I think. My mechanic is similar to your except I trust him with everything and like you I do a lot myself. They kind of earned the name "stealership" with me too. Even when I bought my new truck I had to go back and get the money they stole. It was a big problem and even when they refunded the $750, they put it toward the loan. I explained to them that it was my money and that I decide. Ford Credit disagreed until the Credit Bureau got involved. Only then did they offer the refund. Anywhere else it would be criminal.

Yeah like I said, my family and I have had some bad experiences with dealer services. There's only the one I go to that I trust, but it's not the closest like I said. I try and do what I can on my truck, the rest is for my mechanic.
