    Gears newb question

    When I purchased my truck
It stated it had 3.73s on there well I now lifted my truck 4" and added 315s tires do I need bigger gears? If I do I was over hearing a conversation of something with the 4x4 and needing to swap out something in the front cause it wouldn't match up when in 4x4 does someone know ?
And what gear ratio do you recommend?

I don't believe that you would have to switch out the rear end just with a lift......3:73 isn't super super high, so I would think you'd be ok. Don't go 100% off of my guess though, I'm not a Ford service tech or anything

I think 3.73 will be just fine.

3.73 gear is fine, it's by far the mostly used ratio in rear ends, the only thing to worry about is your torque converter it could start slipping

It all depends on what kind of service the truck will see. If you are just using it for a daily commuter you should be fine. If it doesn't have a tranny I would consider adding one. If you are going to to play in the mud and wheel it I would look at swapping out the diffs from 3.73 to 4.11 or 4.56 gears as it will be a hell of alot easier on your transfer case and axles under load.
