2006 5.4 King ranch humming noise in rear

Humming noise coming from rear since I've had the truck always thought it was tires making noise but ford mechanic seems to think rear is going out. The noise gets louder the faster I go and when I slow down it gets quieter. Any options on what I should be looking for to repair or look out for?

Without hearing it myself it's hard to say 100%, but my guess is it's time for gears. Might be missing a (or some) tooth. I'd start by draining the gear oil and checking for metal in it. May also be a spline on an axle

Check to see if you have a warped rotor if you have a disc rear. Been there done that.
