I buried my foot in the Escort once. Made it go from 68 mph to 70 mph in a split minute.

Serious answer is the PCM and transmission assume that when you punch it like that, you want to go as fast as possible. That means hold onto the torque as much as possible. That means keep the RPM as high as possible for as long as possible. That means late shifts.

COMPLETELY normal unless you go past redline and it still won't shift.
