    broken cam sensor

first I don't know anything about vehicle work I broke my cam sensor off just the plastic sleeve it fell into my truck I have read what to do to remove it by dropping the oil pan my question is what if I don't remove it and just leave what will happen I called Ford they said that it should be okay but would hate to tell me that then have something go wrong I called a smaller local mechanic he said it would just sit in the bottom of my oil pan and not cause me a problem and then the kid at autozone seems to think it's going to mess everything up any answers

I'd drop the oil pan. Its at the most a 2-3 hour job to guarantee it doesn't get sucked into the sump pump
