You've already had a second one? And the swaps are possible, just takes some investment in time and money. New engine, ECU, wiring harnesses, fuel system (depending on which engine you get).

First 4.6 engine the cam phasers failed and was replaced with a reman from the dealership 160000km later now something is rattling in the timing belt at low rpm 800-1100 rpm but only while hot

    ----------

And what about cam phazer lock out kits for the 4.6 + 5.4 or can I just use a different type of head if I decide to rebuild this 4.6 to be bullet proof I love my truck but hate the motor and trans combo

Do you have the 2V or 3V 4.6? And the trans for those years were decent, along with the engines. I've had no problems with my 2005 2V 4.6 so far. But the 3V motors (4.6, 5.4, 6.8 V10) were known for numerous problems.
