Either valve tick or cam phaser.. Typical issue...
Just keep up on Maintenance like joe said.. And use quality 5w20 oil

Thanks guys I change the oil @every 3k miles on all my vehicles the ford dealer says its injectors but idk if that's just them trying to get out of having to do a costly repair
Injector sticking can cause that sound.. Have seen it before.

Modular engines have loud injector tick. Mine has a loud tick at idle when it is cold.
4.2L V6 - M5OD | SCT XCal 3 @ JawsRacing | K&N Series-77 | 16" Dual Efans | Magnaflow High-Flows
50W 5000K FX-R Projectors | Philips LumiLED Taillights | 60" Plasmaglow Fire & Ice | 2" Drop Shackles
Aww the modular ticking well check all the info you can and get ready to spend most likely cam phasers or low oil psi at idle the list is long with these motors lots of poor engineering
Not to be to negative but these pos are costing people lots of money good luck
