Any idea how much mpg will drop with a 3.73 instead of 3.55? Thanks

Kid. If u don't know. Please don't guess.
I have the 3.55's. I average anywhere between 18-22
My buddy has the same truck in an fx4 and 3.73's he gets 15-17. And we drive about the same.
Your Rpms are higher with the 3.73's. Thus the small plunge in mpg. Now. That is just between our trucks. Others vary. Just giving my scenario hope I helped
5Star tuned.....
since you said the truck would be used for interstate driving I would get the 3.55. Maybe even the 3.31. The 3.55 would be better for towing and have more "pickup" then the lower gearing. But the lower gearing will give you better fuel mileage and have less wear on your motor due to the Rpms being lower then what you would have if you had higher gears. But if you want big tires and go mod crazy then you want higher.

That's pretty clear, Ford Fan. Joe's 3-5 mpg penalty is a high price tag for more proportional tires. This was a good reality check. BTW: the Mrs revealed that she supports the plan - a surprising plus! Think I'll keep her. (Full disclosure: she gets a new SUV out of the deal).
