It's also a really good way to spike (let the smoke out) your BCM/PCM or any other electronic boards and then find the need to replace them. With a DVM across the battery and the truck running measure voltage. Than place a load on the circuit (i.e. headlights on high beams, AC on Max, stereo on) then check V again, it should be a minimum 12.5VDC. If so charging system is good. Then pull battery with truck turned off and take it somewhere to have a a load test performed on the battery. Unless you have a load tester at home.

I've never seen anything like that happen, but it definitely makes sense that it could. Just an old redneck trick I learned years ago. And the redneck tricks are typically effective, but do occasionally cause more trouble than what they're worth.

True I've used it before on older vechicles. Can't say I've ever personally experienced what I posted about, but know enough wrenches in the field to heed their warnings about the havoc that sensitive electronics in today's vechicles can have when this is done to them.

Nice, I am debating getting rid of the F150 since it is getting old enough to start worrying about the engine. I bought an '82 Camaro that is now my strip/street car. Work on that pretty much every other day.
