I'm not sure on the 5.0, but I just saw recently that on the EcoBoost, if you put the front of the truck up on ramps, then set a rag on the front of the skid plate so it can't leak out the front of the skid plate, that it will all drip off the back of the skid plate making easier cleanup.

^^^ Thanks Matt . I got a better look under there today. Removing the plate won't really help much. I can put the truck on the driveway apron so it's tilted back or forward , so the flow from the filter housing drain tray goes in one direction. But man there's no room to see the mating surface without a lift . Even with one there'd be just enough room to get your cranium up in the to see the mating surface. Wish that f'n filter was in a different place ! Man what were they thinking ? I mean you can get the filter on by feel no problem , but I always like to visually make sure there's no debris on the
    surface .

On a related note , seems the inter webs are right. Can't beat the price for oil and filters at Walmart . $17.97 for 5 quart jug of 5w-20 and $5.39 for the FL500S filter. Picked up two filters and 3 ...5 quart jugs so I wouldn't need to go back for the next oil change. Be nice if they just made a 7.5 quart jug.... Lol !

^^^ Ok, oil change complete. What a freakin mess. The filter location is one giant PITA. Easy enough to get it of and back on but can't see the mating surface and things get messy up in there. The dual drain tray design sucks, oil sits in it and drips out forever.........hard to even gain any access up in there to wipe it out. Oh well, I have another filter and oil for one more change probably nov or dec, ......that'll get me through winter and then back to the dealer for oil changes (they're cheap enough ) , getting to old to crawl underneath vehicles Lol! But honestly , ....... If it wasn't for the bad filter location and goofy drain pan under it causing a complete mess,...... I'd probably just do it myself. We'll see what happens after the next one I do, but I think I'd rather sit in the dealer lounge relaxing for an hour and drinking their coffe while it gets done lol ! I just let it get to the last minute this time and it needed done before I put 5 or 6 hundred miles on it tomorrow .

^^^^ What about an oil filter relocation kit? That's if they make one for your application.

Anytime glad to be able to help a little. I have the UPR mega can on mine and like the quality. I personally would stay away from the RX can which I think has now became McNally now, I've read about a lot of quality issues.
