    Blend door actuator !!!!

Ok. My truck ...... 2011 5.0 screw with manual ac controls. A little into summer when ac was turned on id get a loud clicking/popping noise that research points to blend door actuator . If I backed off 2 or 3 clicks from full cold temp it always stopped and ac was always cold. I took this as actuator was still trying to close the door . Come yesterday morning it was a bit chilly so I turned temp knob over to full hot setting and clicking commenced immediately . No heat just cold air , so I guess the actuated has either stripped a gear tooth or two and or it's not powerful enough and won't close/open the blend door from its position . I have the column shift and have found a you tube vid showing the removal and installation . Any ford techs out there know the proper part # for my application . It's the actuator right behind slightly right of radio center.

Also I remember reading there was a re-calibration that may work by pulling the SJB fuse #15. Does and one know ? Is the SJB the one by the passenger side footwell ? And if so do you know the calibration steps . I think I read ...... Pull that fuse for at least a minute, then turn key forward without start and wait 30 secs for recalibration to finish . Is this correct ? Do I turn power to hvac on before or after the key forward for 30 secs? Figured I'd give this a shot before I remove center panel and radio and dig into this bitch of a job . Any one on her done this ? Tips ? Tricks ? I know already not to power up the motor before fully installed . Anybody with part # and or info . Having trouble finding / making sure I'm getting correct part . Again it's the one behind radio in a manual control hvac unit with column shift .

Sorry so long. Just trying to make sure I get this done right the first shot with the right part. And from what I hear my large ham hands are gonna hinder getting in there , especially on the back side bolt .

Yeah coop I have a vid just pertaining to the one behind radio ( the one I'm pretty sure is the problem ) . I think by the same guy . And I have some helpful step by step in print. It doesn't look technically hard , just a PITA! Lol ! I just want to get the right/best part , and try the re calibration process first . But I'm a bit confused on that . Anyone else got INFO ?

And yep , thanks ..... just messaged dj .

Thanks coop, I'm gonna use both videos and printed instructions with pics from the interweb Went and bought the temp blend door actuator from ford today ($39.00) . Coulda ordered it online for like 24 bucks but wanted it today as I'm gonna take this on tomorrow . Just for ****s and giggles I asked the service guy at the dealer what the cost for this job would run. His answer,........ Wait for it .................. About a grand !!!!!!!! Told him thanks but no thanks , cant handle paying a grand for a 40 dollar part! Told him I'd give it a go myself with the aid of you tube. His answer ...... "I don't blame ya a bit ". Running out now for an 8mm box wrench for the back side screw . Thought I had a metric set ? ( head scratch), maybe I do but I'll be damned if I can find em . Wish me luck lol ! I believe I'll fill up the swear jar in under / hours lol !

^^^^ use this vid for manual controls with column shift .

Ok. Successful install of the temperature blend door actuator . I'm gonna say it took 3 hours , but in reality it was really only 2 as I took some breaks and had trouble with 2 wire harness plugs on back of center stack, and I was taking my time and being carefull. After doing this I'm confident I could complete it in 30 to 45 min tops if I had to do it again . Follow the link for video above and for another ill post below by ford tech makuloco , this guy is the best and has helped numerous people on this forum and beyond with his YouTube vids. For anyone that wants to try the re calibration ...... With hey out and truck off , pull fuse# 46 ( at least on my gen truck) fuse # 15 on the 09-2010 trucks for at least one minute . Reinstall fuse , turn key to in position without starting truck for at least 30 secs ( I did like two mins). Start truck and adjust controls to confirm ac and heat operating normally. Keep in mind if your blend door has been clicking for awhile the recalibration won't work as teeth in the gears are probably already cracked off . And yes the re calibration also needs to be performed after install of the new actuator. Do not power up actuator without performing the calibration .

Anyone with the very basics of knowledge can perform this repair. As I often say ,..... If I can do it anyone can. The smaller your hands are the easier it will be as the space to work in is tight. But don't let it stop you ! My hands are huge and it wasn't so bad , and saving the $1000 ( that's right a grand) the dealer quoted for the job made it even easier . 39 bucks with a 5 buck discount at my ford dealer. But can be gotten cheaper on line and 10 bucks for a socket I didn't have and an extension .
