yeah. I picked up a bottle of starting fluid. And I'm not sure. Honestly. The person selling it is a woman. And she doesn't know anything about it. But the core support looks clean above the bumper from what I can tell. And the frame isn't dropped between the bed and cab so it's not rotted through. I'm really hoping its in good shape.
As a first vehicle I personally would save up some more and get something in a bit better shape

that's not where they rusted. They rusted down below by the frame and the frame mounts. And they are not available anymore from ford Did you crawl under the truck and look at it? Or just assume it looked good. Any fluid leaks? Rust on the floorboard. Also a common spot body mounts?
Imo Adam I would walk away. That truck could have a bad motor , bad transmission and you are left with a 700 dollar yard ornament
That's not even the right oil filter on that truck...not even close

I would listen to dj.
And as much as I think it's awesome that you aren't afraid to take on a challenge......I also think you should pass. Get yourself something you can drive NOW, and that will help you find better work so that you can do more. A running vehicle is much more important for a young man than a project is. Get yourself some cheap transportation first, then dive into a project once you have some steady income, and you can do as much or as little as you can afford without worrying about how you are getting to work.
Look at FX4 and his project as an example. His work vehicle is seperate from his "pos", and that affords him not only the time he needs to work on it, but doesn't affect his income because it's not ready yet.
Go get yourself a little spec....like a Focus or an Escort....or better yet an older Honda, and use it to pave the way to a better truck to work on. Cheap transportation + steady work = Better truck, and more money to work with to get it just the way you want.
Just my $.02.
I would also sell your half of your brother's truck to him. If he doesn't want to pay-up.....sell the truck and split whatever you get for it. You need working wheels of your own.
You are going in way over your head Adam. From what you told us on here you can't even change oil or plugs

You can get an escort Saturn civic or Corolla for next to nothing

I'm having help with it. And yes I did buy it.. The core support is there and the frame is pretty clean. The mechanic thinks it's decent. The reason why the oil filter is split is Beacause the oil pan gasket was changed. And the motor mount bolts weren't tightened at all. So the motor is forward about 2 inches. The mechanic said its not a big deal. He has the tools to move it back.
