I got ****ed by a GMC dealer today...

I've been looking for a nice "fun" DD to replace my truck and just retire the truck to a weekend worker. I've always loved Mach1s, looked at a couple and the nice ones run about 12-15k which is doable, but my insurance would be around $150-250/mo. Started looking at some Mazdaspeed 6's (also love those cars), they have more room, power, somewhat new-er (coming from a 98) and the insurance is MUCH cheaper and they cost less. So my requirements are: 1.) under 100k miles, 2.) White, 3.) local

So I've been browsing for the past few months. All different colors, modded to hell, 120k+ miles and they're all over the country. Yesterday I'm browsing and this model pops up. 06 Mazdaspeed 6 Sports, white exterior, only 64k miles, and it was only an hour away (Jacksonville). Sweet. Here is where it went downhill:

I e-mailed the dealer at 11am on Thursday. I was e-mailed back from a sales rep immediately regarding the vehicle and I asked him for more pictures of the car. He replies back "whats your number so I can text them to you" and I reply back immediately. He replies back: "okay I'll get right on it". Nothing.

At 6:50pm that night, I was called by an internet sales rep and asked if I would like to see the vehicle. I told him I was still awaiting pictures, but yes I'd love to see it. We set up an appointment for 11am the following day (are dealers like dentists offices? an appointment? really?). Before I got off the phone, I told him "when you guys open, can someone please send me some pictures of the car and/or give me a call before I leave?". He puts the note in my file and we hang up.

I wake up, and leave for the 1.5 hour drive to Jax. Still no call, e-mail, or text. I arrived at the dealership at 11am and get out. I see the Mazda parked in the back by itself, I assumed they moved it and cleaned/prepped it for my arrival. Before I have a foot on the ground, I see a salesman catapult out the front door, over the hood of three cars while pushing a pregnant lady out of the way (okay, not really but you know how salesmen are). Hes nipping at my heels asking 20 questions and I told him I have an appointment and point at the Mazda. He looks at me funny and says, "....that's our managers car." I'm like: "what do you mean? I called last night and have an appointment to see it." he says: "no....we sold that on Monday." I was dumbstruck and was like: "you're kidding me?!?!" and the salesman said "sorry" and walked away, so we left.

I returned home and tried to get in contact with the number the internet sales rep contacted me from the previous day. They said they did not have anyone working there by that name. Great. They then transferred me to the main office's number where they took my information. I asked for a call back. About 15 minutes later, I got an e-mail from the same person that I asked to receive pictures from. I replied via e-mail asking him to call. He called and I explained the situation that I took a day off work and $30 in fuel to come see a car when in fact it was sold 4 days prior. He apologized and when I asked "what happened to taking pictures of the car for me yesterday? I'm assuming you found out it sold already???" before I could finish my sentence, he hung up on me. I have just tried to call back the main office to get in contact with the general manager and they will no longer answer my phone calls.

I've never had my blood boil before, but I literally wanted to rip someones effing head off. So I'm in a pissy mood all day now. Trying to calm down. So I guess the search goes on.

yea those internet sales reps are often 3rd parties...your best bet is just call the dealer directly(which im sure you are aware of now)

Find a car that they do have (check their inventory on the dealerships website), and make another appointment. Tell them to hold it for you because you have cash and want it. Tell them to consider it sold, and have it cleaned and ready for you to drive off of their lot. Repeat at will (because more is always better), and then don't show.

Or better yet.....show up just to make sure they washed and prepped every vehicle you reserved. Enjoy your win in person.

You know what sucks....I went back and looked at the photos and I noticed it had a plate on it in the pictures and was parked by a fence. The same spot I saw it in today. The guy told me it was employee parking, so that means they sold it on Monday, and took the pictures and put up the Ad on Tuesday the earliest. Bait and switch mother****ers.

That really sucks @$$ Alex, sorry to hear about the shady workings of salesmen. I don't trust those people one bit, always trying to rip you off.

Does "used car salesman" somehow make anyone think this is a surprise.

Sorry man that sucks--not a shocker though.

I left a review on Google+, Yelp!, the BBB, their Facebook page, as well as 6 car forums and local Jacksonville classifieds.
