As a member of the NRA and GeorgiaCarry.Org I support gun rights. Open carry is okay to me, but some people may consider it impolite in a place like Walmart or somewhere else where it's against social norms.
On another note, open carry could also make you the first person an active shooter would take down because they might want to take down anyone who might neutralize their rampage.
As for open carry, I think it's kinda stupid. I'm all for concealed carry and am also an NRA member. I just believe that open carry makes you a target for people that want to cause others harm. But maybe that's just Commiefornia rubbing off on me lol.

In the same sense that if you carry open you will be shot first by the active shooter you must also think that if the open carry makes the shooter uncomfortable they will try another place or come back another time, and if there is enough carrying openly it will serve as a big deterrent to a possible shooter.
I have my Oklahoma weapon permit. I carry concealed. But in Oklahoma you can carry open. I have open carried just cause I can.in fact every sense Oklahoma past open carry crime has gone down because more people do open carry.

I agree with Raptor. I am also a member of NRA, IllinoisCarry, and was military police in AirForce and on EST( swat) while in. I was stationed in Colorado where it was the norm to see some cowboy w/ a six shooter strapped to his hip or some cocky guy w/ his new glock peeking out of his jacket like he was some secret squirrel on a covert op. Open carry on the farm or in the woods is great...but that being said, open carry in a public setting is just asking for trouble.
Just cuz someone can shoot the crap out of paper or a tin can doesn't make them a marksmen, and if they don't know how to defend against their weapon getting taken and used against them or god forbid their loved ones, they should NOT open carry. Concealed carry is just that...hidden from sight( that means the bad guy doesn't know you have a gun and you don't scare old ladies and little kids), Open carry just puts a target on you.....ie "shoot the security guard ,shoot the clerk, and oh yeah shoot the guy with the pistol on his belt"
Before I get off m soap box......don't just go to the range and improve you shooting skills, take a defense class to improve the chances that your gun doesn't leave your control.
Done. Just my opinion.

I think NOT knowing who has a gun and can fire back is a bigger deterrent. Illinois just passed conceal carry , last state to do so, and the ghetto's around here are scared now because they aren't the only ones packing.

Yeah, but you wouldn't rob a gun store because you know the clerk has a weapon that they can use to neutralize a threat, but that gas station out in the middle of nowhere looks like a soft target because they're likely unarmed and the police won't be there as quick as most other gas stations, but if it's known that the attendant carries a pistol on their hip it serves as a bigger deterrent to any threat that a gunman might pose.
That's true, but then again if the clerk is seen with a gun the assailant will just shoot them when they enter before the clerk knows whats going on, rather than the place just getting robbed and the guy probable to survive. They both have their pros and cons but I feel concealed carry is better because it's safer and it doesn't make everyday scenarios into shootouts. I find concealed carry more intimidating then open carry because you don't know who has what on them.
