    There should be a sticker either on the underside of the hood or on the radiator cover that has a diagram of the layout of the belt. But no you don't need to go around the fan to get it on the fan pulley. It's on the backside of the fan so you don't have to put it around the actual fan.

    you have to loop it over the fan first though

    Maybe the layout is different for an '01 vs an '05 4.6 for the belt. But my truck that would be ridiculously hard since the fan is inside the shroud.
