    New member intro

Just wanted to introduce myself. I have never owned a truck and all of the options are a little over whelming but I am learning what it means, I think, lol. We are going from an suv. We pull a 3200# pop up and the suv just first have enough room by time we get all our junk loaded, so thinking a truck might be the way to go. I know we want a screw, 4x4, and xlt package as that is the one most on our budget. Would like the 302 package and a 6.5 bed but those seem hard to find. At least around central IL. Any ways, just wanted to say hi and join so I could get all the info I can.

    Thanks

welcome to the fourm hopefully you can find the one you want! The bed extender would help ( if you arnt towing anything ) but then there's a possibility for a dent or chip from rocks.

Welcome to the forum. I just recently grabbed a 13 screw xlt 5.5. With the 5.0 v8. I love it. I have an enclosed race trailer once in awhile. And I also have a little 8x10. As far as payload? I put my dirt bike in the back all the time. I just can't close the gate. Does it matter? No. Lol. I recommend an 11" or better. The 5.0 and the Eco boost are the Technology of the future for Ford. These trucks R out there. Broaden your search and I have no doubts you will find the one you can't live without. Best of luck. And again. Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the welcome. We went and looked at new ones this weekend at a dealer that has at least 150 of any kind of F150 you could want, just not 6.5 ft box screw Started out looking at used and then found that the price of the used ones where too terrible far off from what they are selling some of these new ones for discounted right now, so if we are able to stretch the budget, we may just try to go for the new. My original search found me a 2010 screw with 20k on it, with the 5.8. Haven't been to the town that has it yet but it looks very nice on the pictures. We drove the 5.0 and it was very nice. Didn't drive the 3.5 eco. I would consider it but just didn't think for the same truck I want to spend the extra money, but I am not opposed to it. We did get a chance to see a screw with a 6.5 bed today in another town and was able to compare them side by side and that extra foot would be nice, but trying to decide if it is worth it for the handful of times a year I will need it. Our main reason for wanting the truck is for having more room for camping. Outside of camping season, the 5.5 bed should be more than adequate for normal travel.

It appears that all of the 5.0 I have looked at come with the 3.55 axle, and 90% of them are the locking option. Not sure what that does, but I assume that is probably a good thing to have. We really liked the Blue Jeans Metallic color.

So, the research continues as to which one will be the best for us. So, would it be safe bet though, that if I were to go used, to look for a 2011 or newer to get the 5.0 vs the 5.4 because it is a newer engine or is that not really a concern?

    Thanks

Yes. The 5.0 is quite better than the 5.4. I had one for many years. And thankful I have a 5.0 now lol. I wanted the extended bed. But honestly. I really don't need it. I can get enough wood stacked to last me a weekend Campin. And enough for the house at anytime. 5.0 is a great motor. Eco boost is also a great motor and gets great milage. And pulls more than a stock 5.0. Best of luck. Hope I was helpful. We r all here for ya!
