    Navigation disc won't load

I purchased a navigation disc off Ebay for my 2007 King Ranch, but it won't load. The Ebay posting said that the disc is compatible, but I'm wondering if my stereo/nav unit -- which is the Audiophile top-of-the-line model -- is causing an exception to the rule. Can anyone comment on loading navigation discs and buying the right ones?

Follow-up. The situation is now worse than I thought. Not only will the DVD not load, now the entire stereo system is locked. Even disconnecting the battery does not help. All I can do is open and close the nav DVD panel. What gives? Can someone please tell me a trick to unlock the stereo?

Thanks Jersey Joe. I'm a little befuddled by the lack of responses to my post. Today, at the suggestion of the local Ford dealer, I took off both battery terminals and let them sit for about an hour. Then, I touched the cables together to more completely drain any residual electricity from the system. Then, to be even more complete, I turned the ignition key to "on" and pushed buttons on the stereo. All this resulted in nothing....the unit continues to an error message frozen on the screen, and all buttons -- including the on/off button -- are disabled. The message is that I need to load a "valid" navigation disc. (My disc is valid, but it is scratched.) If anyone in the Dover DE area would allow me to use your valid disc (for a 2007 King Ranch) for just a couple of minutes, I'd like to see if that does the trick. Otherwise, I'm clean out of ideas.

Mike, thanks for your PM. Can someone tell me what company made the stereo/nav unit for the 2007 King Ranch?

I've recently got hold of a perfect condition Ford "valid" navigation DVD and tried to load it, and it did not work. However, it did try for a full five minutes to load the disc before crashing and giving me the same error message...."please load a valid navigation DVD." Anyone have any ideas for me? Jim

I thought I owed everyone an update on my situation. First off, thanks to those of you who responded to my posts, especially to 408Stang out in Denver.

I've received my stereo/nav unit back from United Radio via my local dealership. I paid $410 for their service, and, despite my request beforehand, was not really provided with a detailed description of the work they did. I was told that it was a million-to-one coincidence that my navigation unit broke when I went to install the disc weeks before. The fact that my entire unit froze had nothing to do with the disc. What stiinks is that I did not get more detail than that. What stinks further is that for $410 I don't believe they gave the entire unit a going-over. Yes, they fixed the nav system and bench tested it, but as far as I know they didn't inspect the audio components, such as the CD laser. And, unlike a couple of weeks ago when the unit was removed from my truck, I was not allowed by the dealership to assist the technician in the reinstall. Obviously, I wanted to get some experience on how it pops in and out, how to remove trim pieces, etc. So I was a little disappointed that I had to sit in the waiting room while the technician did the work.

Anyway, the moment the dealership handed me back my key after installing the unit, I took a chance and popped in a 13P navigation disc....and held my breath. If the unit broke again, I wanted it to happen right in front of the technician. My son had just bought the disc off eBay for cheap, but I didn't mention that little detail to anyone. Voila! It successfully loaded, and now I'm back in the navigation game. At the very least, what I've learned from this experience is that my unit is made by Pioneer, and that United Radio really has the market cornered for Ford-authorized audio/nav service. Again, thanks for your input!! Jim
