I was thinking for more self recovery, I got stuck once but managed my way out but then I got stuck and I was to the axle! So really a 7000lb one is enough! But sometimes to pull Chevys outta the ditch!

I just bought a self recovery tow strap for pulling people out, now it's tougher for me because i have cubes down there, hopefully it will fit! But what material should I go with? Synthetic or wire?

i really have no experience with winches, although from my research, I've heard synthetic is better, as it doesn't weather as easy, and it does less damage if it snaps. It's also a little easier on the hands, and more light weight

Synthetic is the way to go, it is more senistive to rubbing against it's self or sharp corners, but overall a lot better. use shackles ,and cushions on edges. as far as size of winch, keep this in mind, Every time you part the pull line the size of the winch needed is cut in half (2000 winch, 2 parts = 4000lbs pull,, winch line to pully and back to truck(2 parts)add another part you get 2000 more)
