Hey everyone, I've researched the hell out of this but am just hoping to get some more insight.
The truck is a '91 4x4 302. It has had this issue ever since I aquired it.
It starts right up when it's cold and doesn't like to start when warm.
The ICM, cap, rotor, and starter where replaced by the previous owner.
I replaced the starter solenoid, cleaned up all grounds, and replaced any damaged ones. This helped but didn't solve the issue.
Today I drove it about 10 miles to an Autozone and bought a scan tool. I came back with codes 52, 10, 18, 33, and 34 without engine running and code 8 with engine running. I have no idea what these codes mean because the included book doesn't even show all of them and an internet search shows different descriptions than the book.
Oddly with the scanner hooked up the truck started right up. After unhooking it would not start. However, after unhooking the coolant temp sensor it started up and I drove to my next destination. It started right up after that as well with the sensor unhooked. I drove to a gas station and when I came out it wouldn't start. I sprayed a little starting fluid in the throttle body and it started after some hesitation.
I drove to my buddy's house and changed the coolant temp sensor and it started up fine afterwards but haven't driven it yet.
Do you think it's possible that it was just the sensor?
