    What limits the 2019 limited F-150 tow capacity

    I have a 2019 limited 4x4. I have 3.55 rear end and my question is how other f150’s with the same setup tow 10,500 without issue. I’m assuming it’s the scorpion 22” tires. I swapped them out with a set of 22” Michelin’s recently. Will that yield me higher tow rating?

    Limited is a loaded package with a lot of options that add weight. This reduces the payload and towing capacity.

    The biggest limiting factor is payload and vehicle weight.

    Keep in mind, once your vehicle rolls off the assembly line you can't adjust the "legal" weight ratings.

    You cannot change your tow rating. Once it's assigned at the factory, it is what it is.

    There are a number of factors that go into calculating tow rating at the factory:
    - Wheel strength
    - Factory Tires
    - Gear Ratios
    - Engine Configuration
    - etc...

    On an F-150 the limiting factor for usable tow capacity is usually available payload. The amount you can tow is determined by the difference between your curb weight and GVWR.

    GVWR is the maximum weight your truck can weight, legally. That means the total weight on all for tires. This includes the tongue weight of any trailer. Most trailers (when loaded properly) put 10-15% of their weight on the tongue.

    For example, if you have a 6,000lb trailer, expect at least 600lbs to be on the tongue. This means the difference between your curb weight and GVWR needs to be at least 600lbs so you can add the 600lbs of trailer tongue weight onto the chassis of the truck. Don't forget to account for the weight of the driver, passengers and fuel.

    There are a LOT of weight ratings (Gross Axle Weight Rating, Hitch Rating, Wheel weight ratings, etc...) but usually what limits an F150 is their curb weight. F150s, particularly high trim level trucks, have a lot of stuff that adds weight, and every pound of luxury takes away from your available towing capacity.
