    Truck making a noise

Recently my truck has started making noise. My grandparents are down for the week end and I showed my papa the noise and he thinks its the wheel bearing in the rear wheels or the u joint on the drive shaft. (He also called them bearing.) he told me to move the driveshaft back and forth and he said it should not have that muck play in in. Anybody had/have/heard of this problem?

i wouldnt be the one to answer your question, but a description of the noise itself and when it occurs would make it easier to diagnose. this forum has a lot of very knowledgeable people

The noise sounds like a vibration at high speeds

Rob how many miles on truck? This could be u-joints if they have not been changed. This usually occurs when the factory joints go out cause you can't grease them. If you have close to 200K on them you did well on mileage ! Also when there is slack in joint this throws the driveshaft out of balance this causing the vibration. Time to change them both at the same time and inspect the carrier bearing ( if equipped )while your down there to no that its good! Hope this helps brother!

The truck is at 278,xxx. I was looking at the u-joints on Sunday and it looks like i can re grease them. Should I try to re-grease them or go ahead and replace them? If I re-grease them, and the noise continues could it be the rear bearings?

I would drop shaft out and inspect the joints for movement. If there is noticeable movement I would change them both and it will put back in balance and should not have vibration after change

I got my shop teacher to look at my u-joints and he said that they are fine. My papa also suggested low rear-differential fluid so we checked that and it was a little low. Went to napa and got some to add and I put some in it but still could hear the noise. Hoping it needs a little more driving to work that rear-diff fluid in and stop the noise.

You might try changing it instead of just adding some. Might have better effects.

Rob if there is a vibration present then something is out of balance or worn enough to cause this situation! Likely it will not fix the problem you are having. Keep looking and good luck!

New information: I've noticed while driving down the road and when I go around a left curve the noise will stop. As soon as I straighten the wheel up the noise will continue. The noise sounds like a vibration
