Rats under the Hood -How to Prevent?
My daughter’s 2003 F-150 is parked in the driveway. Over the Christmas break it sat for a while and rats moved in and did a ton of damage to the wiring. To the tune of about $800.
The car is still at the shop. In the mean time I’ve set some bait stations around the foundation of my home and intend to use some sticky traps and standard spring kill traps under the car near the front wheels when I get it back.
Is there anything else I should be doing? Can anyone offer any advice on how to prevent this from happening again?

I use to have that problem. Only it was in the garage. A friend suggested that I spread Naphthalene flakes around the of the outside of the garages and inside around the wheels and tires of my F-150. It worked good. It was just a bit of a hassle doing that every once in a while.

Or put rat poisoning all over in hidden places. I know of a car dealer that these critters make their homes in brand new cars for my wife! I went over there checking out new vehicles and opened the hoods on several vehicles to see rat or squirrel droppings... or something. They made their homes right on top of the engines on either a Mustang or Escape.

Spray straight Pine Sol around it. Camper guys do this. It works.

take a couple cotton balls drip spearmint essential oil on them and put them under the hood ,it will keep the little critters away , been using that for several years .
