How accurate is the computer for MPG?

Hey guys stock 2015 f150 XLT fx4 and my trip computer was saying I averaged 17.9 mpg for my last tank. My fuelly app said I only averaged 17.2. Is this about the difference you all get? Or is some of yall's spot on??

Thanks Jersey_Joe! I'll just keep on checking it see if it gets any closer to the fuelly app. Which I don't know how good the fuelly app is. That may be the issue idk.

You can calculate it by hand and get the exact numbers to see how accurate your computer is.

My trip computer is always off too. Anywhere from a as much as a half gallon typically. Have seen it as high as a gallon off once before. Seems like it tends to be more off when it is almost all city driving for some reason. I always do Fuely anyways to keep track of fuel expense. The wife's car is always off too. The computer always seems to be optimistic, and not the other way around, lol.

Yeah my 4Runner was always pretty close anywhere from .1 to
.3 tenths. This one doesn't seem quite so close.

Well I checked the computer today vs hand calculations and fuelly. My trip computer said I averaged 18.7 mpg over 438 miles. Well doing the math I came up with 17.5 and the fuelly app said 17.6. So it is definitely optimistic on the computers part. Which aggravates me a little.

The longer it runs, the more accurate it will be. That has been my experience.
