    lighting power

I just installed 4 helps 500ff that I converted to hid. I'm concerned whether I will be able to maintain enough power to run all of my Hids. I have my headlights fog lights and now these Hellas. 8 total. I was told by a friend that they make capacitors that would help maintain my battery power. Any input on this is welcome.

    Headlights (high beam) 65w side x 2 = 130W.
    Fogs 45W side, x2 = 90W.

    Total for stock system is 220W / 12vDC = 18 amperes

    4 HIDs @ (I'm assuming 35W) = 140W / 12v = ~12 amperes.

Grand total of 30 amps. A little on the high end. A stock 90A alternator is more than enough. It all depends on your wiring. How do you have them wired? what is the thickness (AWG) and length (ft) of the power wire and ground wire?

There are two fixes for a voltage spike. The big three or have your alternator rebuilt to produce 130 amps.

Big Three only applies to audio. Won't help with lights. Stock lights have proper wiring. Any problem with aftermarket lighting is the installer's fault. 90A is plenty enough, no need for 130A.

I beg to differ, any draw on the electrical system will effect the entire system. 90a maybe enough to run after market accessories but still if your running lights a sound system have your head lights on and your ac running I guarantee your going to put strain on the system. Not that the alternator won't be able to keep up but chances are your headlights are going to dim when your amp is requiring more power or your running multiple lights. I've seen spikes in electrical systems running lights and the amp draw is dramatic.

Again, you're talking about audio. Audio is making the drain, not the lights. In that case, doing the Big 3 would help because you have an audio setup.

well once i get it wired up completely ill see how my audio performs and possibly do a capacitor for to start then go from there

    ----------

and the headlights and fog lights are wired through the factory system with the plug and play ballasts the auxillary lights are going to be wired from ballasts to a relay then to an aftermarket switch. I work for uhaul and we install brake controllers and all kinds of trailer wiring so i just got some of our heavy guage wire that can control brake controllers for up to 4 axle trailers.

So, are you going to tell me the details of your wiring? I will let you know if it is sufficient enough.
