    How much can I tow?

So I have 2 sources telling me different towing capabilities on my truck. It's a 2012 STX SuperCab with axle code 19 (3.55), 145 wheelbase, and transmission code 6.
The towing matrix in the manual says the 145, 3.55, SuperCab can tow 7800. However, the camping world RV towing guide VIN decoder says that the STX SuperCab can only tow 5500, while XLT, Lariat, etc. Can tow 7800.
I'm guessing the manual shouldn't steer me wrong, but the manual doesn't have a breakdown of the trim level tow capabilities.
So a couple questions: do the trim levels really have different tow capabilities? And do I trust the manual over a VIN decoder?

    Towing

Google Fords OEM truck Towing Specs.

EASY-lol... way to find your trucks towing perimeters.

    1. Find Trucks Payload Rating.

    2. Find Trucks Gross Vehicle Weight Rating/GVWR

    3. Find Truck Gross Combined Weight Rating/GCW

    4. Calculate Passenger & Cargo Weight.

    5. Find Trailer Tongue Weight

    **NOW;

    1. Add Passenger, Cargo, & Tongue Weight=Payload Capacity

    2. Add Truck Weight to that number= Gross Vehicle Weight/GVW

    3. Check against Ford's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating/GVWR

**This will tell you if you are within towing specs....or not.

    4. Take Gross Vehicle Weight/GVW & Add the Trailer Weight=Gross Combined Weight.

    5. This will again let you know of you are within specs....or not.

So researching the Ford catalogues and manuals, it looks like my trailer tow weight is 7800. But my bumper says max tongue weight is 500, doesn't that limit me to 5500 trailer weight?

I think it is better to contact the experts, and ask specifically for your model. manuals often provide general information.
