    Transmission identification

How do I identify the transmission that is in my truck? I need to order a flexplate (flywheel), and I want to make sure I get it right. I have a 2007 F-150 King Ranch with the 5.4L engine, auto transmission, and 4x4. Are there other variables I would need to know? Thanks.

Your question has already been answered but for future reference the sticker on you door gives you the code (either letters or numbers or a combo of both) for information on your engine, transmission, axle (gear ratio), among other info. You can google the code for these things and it will tell you. Another safeguard for the right part is to go to fordparts.com and type in your VIN and that way Ford will tell you the right part and number for your specific configuration of truck. Just buy parts elsewhere because they are expensive on there. Good luck!

There's quite a gap between the least and most expensive flex plates out there. For example, AutoZone sells one for my F-150 for $60 (made by Pioneer), and the dealership sells one for $261. What's the risk of buying the $60 flex plate? Inferior metal? Poor balancing?
