Just got my first ford .

Can you put a cold intake on a Ecoboost ?
Could chip it too? What brand is good and the perks of it.

There are cold air intake out for the ecoboost, but I haven't heard of them making any real improvements.

I've got the airaid intake on mine. Like stated above not a big improvement power wise, but I do get about 1mpg better if I keep the foot out of it. My favorite thing about it is the added ability to hear the turbos do their thing. Your average joe probably hates the sound, but a gear head like me understands what it's about and likes it A LOT lol.

As far as tuners go.... I've got the superchips flashpaq and it's a decent tuner. Noticeable power increases and even a lil better mileage (again if I keep the foot out of it) However, I do plan on getting a different tuner down the road so I have the ability to custom tune and have her run just the way I want instead of a predetermined tune that some R & D guy said was "good"

As for the Airaid intake, I'm about one click away from ordering it. I'm looking forward to the turbo sound, how loud is it? Will people be able to hear it when you drive by? Noticeably ? Will the dealer have a fit over it?

I'd reinstall the stock airbox before going to the dealer for anything.

Yes it is noticeably louder. Especially when you get into it then let off suddenly. The BPV sound is awesome and is definitely noticeable to others.

As far as what Alex said about taking it off to go to the dealer. I would t worry about it. I've had mine in for a few oil changes and all they've asked me is about any performance and mileage gains I got from it.

Hey I have a 2012 ecoboost and I have a cold air intake on it. Have you noticed any odd sounds from it when your holding one speed? Say 60km with your foot off and on it slightly. I here a little pop sound. Just wondering if it's normal

It's probably just the BPV. It puts air back into the intake when the throttle plate closes

Actually, I heard a lot of popping after installing an afe cold air intake on my ecoboost. Reading up, it seems its called turbo bark which apparently means the release of the extra unused air created by the turbos. I'm guessing with the higher volume cold air intake, the turbos produce more air than can be received or used by the engine. This is where I'm still playing around with different combinations of tunes and exhaust as well. Hopefully, I'll have enough time this weekend to install an afe cat back exhaust. Loving the extra power.

When it tells you to. The newer motors have an IOLM (intelligent oil life monitor) that bases your change intervals on how you drive I.E. more highway miles = probably 10,000 mi interval whereas more stop and go city driving will be from 5000 - 8000 mi

Installed my intake Monday evening, took about 30 minutes. Most of that was looking for the correct size torx driver. You'll need 3 different sizes.
It does produce a more noticeable sound from the turbos and the intake pulling in air. Sounds good when you get into it and release the pedal right away. Does appear it's more peppy now also. Can't verify gas mileage yet, as I'm having too much fun listening to the noise. LOL. :p
