I have a 2007 F150 with a 5.4 liter V8 engine. I have talked to many mechanics including my local Ford dealer. They all said that the float valve in the tank broke. The Homelink wireless garage door opener on the drivers side vanity mirror stopped working the same day the fuel gauge stopped working. Is this electrical or were the mechanics correct? I have a habit of running the tank almost completely dry. Is that what broke the float valve? I want your opinions before I pay $700 to have this fixed. Thank you for your advice.

Well if it is the float valve, I would not pay them to do it. Get a 6-pack and drop your tank. It'll take a afternoon at the most.

Running your tank almost dry would not break your float, have u checked your fuses, maybe a auxiliary fuse has burnt out
