Well I've had 4.6's and 5.4. I kinda like the 5.4 better. My 5.4 Shelby is way faster than my 4.6 cobra. Moded right they both can compete. But I prefer the 5.4 over the 4.6 any day.

my 5.4 3V does a good job moving my truck...power is only the first step though...trans, and rear end have to be geared right

Stock? No, but with upgrades and maybe forced induction yes!

I had an 08 4X4 SuperCrew with the 5.4 and it ran good, but I wouldn't say it was fast.

Your best option for a fast truck will be something in a regular cab short bed configuration. That's the lightest truck you can have so it will be quicker.

Lightning over blown 4.6 any day. But. My fx4 is fast and real torquey. Remember. Torque get u down the track. Hp pulls u. I have 522 at the crank on my 5.4 in my fx4. And almost the same in torque and it runs a 13.7. 7,000 lbs. it's fast. Fer a truck. Quite happy with it I must say. But there r sooooo many options to explore. 4x4 truck with the right mods can be as fast as u want it and capable to go anywhere. I like to all mine a road rage vehicle. Versatile. Ya know. But if u can beat thunder. I can always bring the lightning. Lol. What r u puttin a motor in and what do u want to do with it

Lol I always wanted to put a lightning powerplant in my old ranger and call it the Thunder. That could of been pretty dang fast of I could of got it to hook up.

Most likely they are 3V, but the SVT motors for the cobra R and the Shelby's are a 4V head.
