Have a 2010 F150 and I have been getting a ticking sound from the engine since I owned the truck. The dealer keeps telling me it's normal but I don't think so. Anyone have the same issue. Truck engine is a 5.4

If u use high test gas u may have a slight octane ping. Er u small knock. But the later 5.4's r not quiet. Especially with a full load on. Just keep changing ur oil dude. Use mobile 1. Full synthetic. Is more $ but u get what u pay for. And also use zmax every 6,000 miles. Giver a shot. Bet she quiets down. Leme know how u make out

Thanks. I have used full syn since I've owned it. I use 89 octane for gas

Why aren't you using the recommended 87-octane?

I thought if I used 89 I would get better mileage and it would be cleaner.

Haha no. Octane does not give you better mileage and it certainly does not clean better. Octane rating is for the knock sensor in the engine. All you are doing is wasting money.

I beg to differ. I get 1-2 mpg better per tank if I run premium (91 around here)

So at least for me its definitely worth the extra $5-$10 per tank compared to regular.

My advice for the OP is to avoid anything with ethanol in it. Most ethanol is 110-115 octane so if they put it with some 81 or so octane gasoline they get an 87-89 mix. That's just MHO of the whole fuel situation.

I concur. I get 18-19 mph wit my 03. Did alot of work to get it that way. But I burn Sunoco 91 and I get 3 miles t a gallon more than if I would use reg. I had a ping in my old motor. And I was told it was an octane ping. From ford. But hey. If u got no light on and it starts? Drive her. Lol. Good luck

Thanks for all your advise. I'll try using 87 for awhile and let you all know how that works.
