Gentlemen, hope your all doing well!

On Tuesday, I picked my new 2012 FX4. You have no idea how in love I am with this truck. 3.5L ecoboost turbo, fx appearance, moonroof, rear view camera, box is 5.5 long. Even though I had recently got this truck, so far I'm impressed with the mpg. I'm averaging 18mpg on city and around 26 mpg/hwy. I'll get real numbers when I fill up the tank twice and do the math. All in all. Loving it. Lol. I have a second vehicle,1995 Honda civic dx, which I drive to work.

I need some advice. Should I fuel up with octane 87? Is it safe to bring the truck to a car wash and would the decal sticker come off? I didn't buy rush protection, is it necessary?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Great looking truck and welcome to the site!

I've got about 6500 miles on my EB and have always used 87, but that's only because it's difficult to find higher octane fuel around here without ethanol in it. And in my experience with the E10 fuel I'll avoid it at all costs. I filled up with an 87 E10 a couple thousand miles ago and it was horrible for mileage. If I remember correctly it was a 3MPG loss with the E10.

Now with that being said, I recently located a station in town that has 93 octane fuel with no ethanol and am in the process of getting as much of the lower octane fuel out of my truck. I figured if it performs better and increases mileage with the higher octane fuel I can justify the extra cost per tank.

Thanks! Well last night I filled up with octane 89 and it cost me $150. the truck is just intended for use on the weekend (pleasure/renovations ), I figure it should last me more than a month.

Holy cow! $150 fuel must be pretty expensive where you are. I can fill from empty for $85. I'm guessing they put the 36 gal tanks in the '12 MY. In the '11 MY you could only get a 26 gal tank with the EB.

Your absolutely right. I have a 36 gallon tank. Regular gas in Toronto , since we use litres, it's around $1.25/L. Octane 89 and 93 are $1.37/L and $1.48/L as of last night. Not sure how much that is in gallons.

I use regular, and the $150 is when the price is in the 1.28 per liter and running dry.
