07 or 08+ if you are getting the 5.4 V8, the first few years of the 5.4 3V are prone to too many problems

usually the last year of production is because all of the kinks are worked out. Same was true for the 03+Rangers, all the kinks got worked out in the first few years of production

You wouldnt catch me dead in a 97-03. (sorry to you guys that have them) The frames and body structure on them are weak as hell. If your after late model go with 04+ they are new from the ground up with class leading frame and body structure strength and safety. The 3V 5.4's have there quirks but so does every motor, the 2V 5.4 had its fair share too. I wouldnt think twice about buying another 5.4, I love mine. Just remember the issues you read about on these forums are the minority. For every one complainer on here there are thousands of happy owners out there that you dont hear from.

The NBSs (04-08) look ugly to me. The crash tests for our generation weren't great, but I've been in three accidents in my truck and they've all been repaired. I've responded to quite a few wrecks with some 10th gens being FUBARed so bad you had to look around the debris field to find a badge or logo to tell what it is and people walking away from that. I think they look great and easy to modify!

I've got an 04 and LOVE it! Yes, there is the slight diesel knock that everyone talks about, but it's got 120,3xx on it and running strong. I've had it since January 10th, and put 3300 miles on it since I got it, had some minor stuff that I've done to it to begin with (brakes, plugs, etc). Nothing major though, little stuff is to be expected! I love it!
