A couple common issues come to mind with the 5.4 3valve is cam phasers and exhaust manifold leak, those two seem to be the most common sources of ticks/ knocks. Can you listen with the engine running and figure out approx were the sound is coming from?

I took a video of my truck. This may not be the same thing that you hear on yours. I did notice that i could still hear it when i went into gear which it usually stops. Of course i dont drive with my door open so that might be whyi could still hear it lol

This maybe normal for these trucks, but we've never had a truck do that before. We've only had Powerstrokes and a 01 V6 Ranger before this which neither made this noise

Is this the diesel knock issue I've heard talk about possibly?? I have noticed that with my 04 (I just bought it 2 1/2 weeks ago) that I have that slight diesel knock....usually I notice it after I start it up and there's a belt making noise (I think it's the fan belt anyway...I hope!) and I open the hood to try to figure out if it's something else. I have also noticed that when going up hill at higher speeds when its on cruise, that I get an extra vibration/noise from the engine. Is this tied into the diesel knock sound?

I've had the same problem before when I noticed it needed an oil change, I might try that. It usually quiets back down after you change the oil. That is unless you've already done that. Trust me, I bought my truck figuring it had the oil changed by the dealer and no such luck. It would be worth a try before you get that far into tearin the engine apart to fix it

Alright that's an idea, the oil looks pretty good, I'm fairly sure it was changed. I figured I would do it soon though...

Changed the oil on Saturday, I put synthetic in it too...not sure if it helped or not...think it might have a little bit.
