Just wondering what everyone thought of this oil or what the advantages of using it instead of 5w-20????

Just thicker I believe. I run 5w-30 in mine.

Im not sure, but with these 5.4 engines ford is very firm on using the MC 5w-20 do to the cam phaser issues. Thicker oil has a tough time passing through them

I heard tht using the 5w-30 aftr 75000 miles would be better for things lik the cam phaser. Since it would be thicker when it gets hot.

I know that is what my mechanic has told me to put in 90s vehicles (a thicker oil) but I'm not sure that it's a good idea in a newer fiddy......
I started using Car-Quest 5W-20 Full Synthetic oil in mine when I changed it for the first time (last time!) I've got, oh I don't know, a thousand on it maybe....we'll see how I like it:) Probably will, don't have to change it as often. Also, if you use Synthetic, I've been told you never want to go back to conventional, not sure but that's what I've been told.
Lucas Oil is always good too! Although again, I'm not sure about in a newer F-150....

Idk but the way it was explained to me made sense. Parts would be a lil worn and the engine would be a lil more "opened" up and " loose". Sorta how it was explained to me but in a more technical way.

I have a 4.2L, but I just passed 252K miles and I use Motorcraft 5W-20. Exactly as the manual states.

Another thought, is try running AMSoil through it....I've never used it, but it seems to be a really good product.....I have used Lucas oil in my older vehicles, that stuff is really good stuff as well (you put 1 quart in of Lucas, and then fill with your other oil). I know that my mechanic/auto parts store owner (who's a super super good guy, and a very good mechanic) told me that the best thing to do if you want ot help your engine is to put synthetic through it.

I use 5w-20 royal purple in mine it's synthetic and it is the best by far in my experience it's a bit more expensive but u change it every twelve thousand instead of three u just make sure to change the oil filter every three

How is the synthetic? I was thinking about switching over to it? Not sure, a lot of cleaning involved Before changing to synthetic, so I'm told!?

Valvoline synpower is great oil I have always run it in my 04 5.4. They also stand behind the oil with a 300,000 mile engine garuntee. Great stuff!

When i had my 2000 f-150 with the 5.4 i ran synthetic starting at about 115,000 and can tell u the truck came alive. Motor ran like it was new.

I talked to a well known engine builder and he told me 5 w 20 oil is crap and the only reason it's used is to slightly and I mean slightly help fuel mileage and I personally have owned fords my whole life and I change my oil twice a year 10w-30 in the summer and 5w-30 in the winter oh and defiantly synthetic and I have never had any engine issues I use royal purple or amsoil when I could find it, I was also a senior master Tec for ford for over 20 years just recently changed Jobs I now am a mechanic for the electric co

I thought ford uses the twenty because the space between the piston and cylinder wall is so minuet that that is a better weight to lubricate My brother in law is the lead over at a local ford dealer and he's always sayin how people don't use the right oil. I've been using mobile 1 5-20 since day 1 Had no probs. this sounds like a question fer the professor

----------

Professor. What u think

----------

Ok. I shot the pooch. I read a comment. Leme read that again so I know what the hell I'm answering now. Lol

----------

Ok yes I use synthetic. And yes it's 5-20. Mobile 1. Period. Always use what is recommended. Just my opinion.
