View Full Version : why low ride a truck? Why?

Why in heavens name do people lower there trucks until they're about 4 inches off the ground? If you want a vehicle closer to the ground then why not by a car?

it's not really my favourite look for a truck either, but it is all personal preference. i saw a really nice f150 in a magazine that had a bunch of performance mods and was lowered fairly low. it was a quick street and it looked like a race truck too.

but then again, joe has a mean fx4 that would probably give the f150 in the magazine a run for its money

I'll admit about ten years ago I lowered a ranger 4" in the front and 5" rear. She was beautiful. I mean ranger can't really do much else so why not!
It couldn't have done this for sure!

^that is a LOT of sod!

I'll admit that some low riders look nice if done up right. I just highly believe that it defeats the purpose of having a truck. Then again I come from a long line of four-wheel in anything that's got wheels so a low rider wouldn't cut it. And I also help people move a lot so I'm all about the truck being stock hight or higher.

Your truck wasn't lowered to a horrible scrap the ground kind of low though. And it doesn't look to bad.

Street trucks have what we want- the feel of a truck (higher seats, bigger engine, etc) but lower to the ground means less drag and better cornering. The Lightning is a perfect example as it is lowered from the factory. I don't understand why people jack up F-150s and put 38" mud tires on them and then go tear up their $10-50k truck in mud. Different strokes for different folks

pockets
05-19-2013, 05:40 PM
The truck I'm buying from my buddy as oversized tires which I'm thinking of changing cause I don't care much for them. And his beat the piss out of it which is why he had to repair the front end. I'm not going to beat the piss out of it but I do plan on taking it up some muddy big ass hills to get to amazing camping spots. I love camping where other people aren't.

----------

And I like how you said different strokes for different folks it was a nice touch

Nothin like gettin a little mud on the tires!!!! I would only put 38s or bigger on a diesel though!

Why not?? The more stickers you have, the closer to ten's you are! Lol

Thanks. That's actually stock ride height, however 2000 pounds of sod had it nearly on the rear axle!

No teddy bears :( damn I love my pink teddy bears and my girly girl stickers :'( Lol just kidding. No, my style is stock height or a little lifted nothing extreme though.

Oh and definitely no pink or purple crap anywhere

hahaha. i have a buddy with a riced out honda. all that jdm and he still only beat my stock 4.6 by a half second

pockets
05-19-2013, 09:59 PM
I find those ricers and the people who drive them to be annoying. They tend to think they're hot **** in those damn things. And they tend to think they can beat anyone but the truth is they can't and they cry like babies when they get beat especially if its by a girl. What the forget is that power is only part of the battle you got to know how to drive like a racing fool.

----------

So I say kudos to you for only being half a second behind cause you know how to drive.

baldyman

thats exactly how i feel as well. and if you are looking for power you have to start with displacement. there's a reason real race car drivers dont use 1.3L cars lol

You're right. Nobody wants a puny 1.3L engine....F1 cars use those monster 3.0L engines!

It goes without a doubt that cars made in the United States have higher displacement with lower power outputs compared to their European or Asian counterparts. My sister has a 1.8L Mitsubishi I4 putting out 450hp @ 520ftlbs torque with nothing more than a 50-trim turbo and custom tune. Try doing that to a 4.6L or 5.4L truck and you'll be lucky to break 350/400. Not only are Europeans more adept to using technology to squeeze power out of an engine (as opposed to Americans where we just like to make everything bigger), they also get much better gas mileage too. Take for example Luxury Sedans:

Europe- BMW 528i 3.5L V8 @ 495hp - 29mpg
US- Cadillac XTS 3.6L V6 @ 295hp - 26mpg

I don't know about you guys, but I think we need to borrow Europe's technology. Their most fuel efficient car is a 1.3L I3 diesel, four seats, small trunk, gets 71mpg....

well i stand corrected. i didnt know that about F1 cars. didn't mean anything negative against smaller motors, ive just grown up hearing about my dads olds 442 so im a little biased :P

71 mpg holy mosses that's freaking insane. I could definitely go for 71 mpg hell I could go visit my buddy in Arkansas if I was getting that kind of mpg

The only thing those things did great was suck gas and make noise. The 442 is a classic engine (I've driven an old 70s motorhome with a bigger 535ci Chrysler in it), but they barely made 200hp. Fortunately America is catching back up- Ford with their EcoBoost (a European design) V6 making better mileage and power than the 5.0L V8.

Agreed, the Buick I have with a 455 makes just over 320 HP.

I agree with you to a point Alex, but there's definitely something to say about a 500ci motor pushing 8000HP. Lol
