Any CEL's popping up? And could be clogged injectors. Run some fuel system cleaner through it. Also, has your throttle body been cleaned recently?

similar issue happened a couple weeks ago with our 7.3 diesel. turned out to be the icm and ecm. might be worth looking into

It sounds like it could be a fuel quality issue. How long has this been happening- more than 1 tank of gas? If you think back to when it started was it recently after fueling? I have seen excessive ethanol do some nasty stuff. There are some companies that make products to specifically combat ethanol and water or even stale gas. May not hurt to try.

I have ran 3 tanks of fuel from random stations and still no change.

Basics.. Fuel filter, coil packs, rechecking plug gaps, vacuum leaks..

I'd suspect electrical problems somewhere.

How many miles? Any replacement of the wires/COPs?

Truck has 77k on it plugs were changes at 74k by ford dealer COP are original but I have no CEL on dash so whatever is the problem is getting past the computer.

Have you washed it recently? IIRC there is a special drip-tray to stop water from getting on the COPs for cyl #4 i think

A bad coil won't always set a code.. Most of the time yes but not always..

Dealer is trying to tell me that they think a valve or two is bad in the motor...any input on this guys? Truck only has 80k on it and its not driven rough at all.

Sounds like a load of s*** to me. Did you get a second opinion from another mechanic not related to a dealership?

I call BS as well.. Take it to a non dealership shop that's reputable in the are have them check it out.. Make sure they do a compression test as that should tell if its for bad valves..

Oh and the dealer shouldn't be telling you what they "THINK" is wrong.. They should compression test it before telling someone something like that...

I got to thinking when I first got truck I had a gas smell in cab took it back to them they said they suggested plugs..yes ford keeps using fancy words on me. So I took it to the local ford dealer and had them test it same results needs plugs..so I had them change them okay...two days later pick it up and hmmm now more issues..so if I bought the truck..had a smell fixed what they told me was the problem..and two tests later and a set of new plugs and they didn't come up with the diagnosis of valves till after they changed plugs out...hmmm..im thinking who f'd up..cause original test said plugs were bad...no where in two tests..two dealers did either one say valves or head issue till after the plug change. And they think im a dummy.
