Hat are a good rim an tire size for a 97 f150? I got 33's an they drink my gas like crazy

stock if you are worried about gas. you may need to regear if you want to keep the bigger tire

What he is referring to is the gears in the differentials on your truck. The larger the tire the numerically higher gearing you need to compensate for the additional rolling resistance. I imagine that with your 33s you experience minor power loss, but probably not enough to spend the $$$ it cost to re-gear.

Granted what is acceptable and what isn't is a personal choice. As i run 33x10.5R15s on a 91 ranger with 3.73s 5spd, and i live in the foothills of Colorado and have no issues. However some might see taking the hill at 65 instead of 75 an issue, i don't see it as one.

Dropping back to a 265/70R16(30.6") or a 255/70R16(30.1") will help bring up the mileage. The only other thing you can really do is make sure your trucks tuned up and running well to improve the mileage.
You could always add headers, a nice exhaust and so one, which in theory increases the MPG but from what i have seen results in a typically heaver foot, and no change or a negative one from those mods.
