That could be your problem lol. There needs to be a switch to turn off like 4 cylinders when you do that. I know they have that Active Fuel Management now that turns off 2 when you get to cruising speed, but does it do that when you're stopped too?

idk that'd be cool, and I know the new silverados have it for highway, runs off of four cylinders, they definatley need it in a ford!

I don't think it's that great. The GMs don't get better mileage than the new FoMoCo motors that use all of the motor all the time.

That's not what I'm saying. I feel the variable timing is better technology for economy. I'd rather run less timing on the whole motor than have 4 cylinders shut off and just pumping for no reason.

That's a good point. But shutting them off while idling would be a good idea for economy.

Nope they run all 8 at idle for maximum torque on launch.

Technically there is no such thing as MPGs while you're idling. At that point in time it's more of a GPH figure since you aren't going any miles.

Yeah, but overall if you use less while idling, you'll go farther on every tank when driving.
