I have a 2005 F150 with 4x4. When I make turns in both 2 and 4 wheel drive, it bangs like it is in 4x4 on dry pavement. Anyone else have this problem?

Need more info : how many miles? Like a grinding sound or more knocking? And only notice when turning both direction? Anything else you can think of?

167000 km. I guess more of a knocking when turning either direction. I changed rear diff oil and u joints last summer, so is not either of them. Seems to be worse when in 2 wheel drive. Can't really tell if coming more from front or rear end

I would assume it would be the front end since it occurs only when you turn. Can you feel it in the steering wheel when it happens, or do you just hear it?

Can u feel it in the wheel? Just a knocking? No squeek?

No squeak. Shakes throughout the truck like I was in 4x4 on dry pavement. Even in 2wd. So can't really narrow it to steering wheel or certain area. Felt everywhere

Sounds like a power steering issue.

I had a friend with this problem and we thought it was the solenoid that might have been shot, because it happens. In his situation though he actually fused his axles to the transfer case.

I'd try the power steering first before you start throwing money at the really expensive things.

Your welcome, does it do it if you're stopped and turning the wheels? Or only if you're driving?
