Well it finally happened. After 15 years and 4 months, logging over 321K miles on the stock one, my factory 95A alternator died and my truck left me stranded on I-10. I hitched a ride to work, got my mom to drive me to my truck where I swapped batteries and used her fully charged one to drive home. I got home, pulled the post and sure as crap she dies. So with the few hundred I have saved for my upcoming vacation, I'm about to go drop $140 to upgrade to a 130A alternator. I would rebuild it, but I have work in the morning and need my truck running ASAP.

Well I went to VatoZone and the girl behind the counter told me I had a 95A (no ****) and the 130A wont fit, and needs a different belt. I told her otherwise but she wouldn't believe me. She said $122 for the 130A and they wouldn't be responsible for when it doesn't fit. So I left and went to O'Reillys. They had a 130A for $110 + tax. He pulled it out and the case is obviously bigger, but the pulley and mounting brackets were obviously the same. Got home and it took me all of 6 minutes to reinstall it. The dead battery has been on the charger, so I slap that in, and then a quick test drive to the local gas station to reset the fuel tables. I didn't want to spend the cash, but for it lasting as long as it did, I'm okay with it.

Next up: ball joints

That was a good run on that alternator..

But a quick tip. The days of pulling a post off the battery while running are over.. That can kill ECU's.. Have had it happen before.. That trick works on older stuff newer stuff is to risky.. ESP when ya can just put a multimeter on it or take it to get tested..

Yes, that is true for 11ths gens and newer, the 10th gen is the last model you can safely "pull the post"

Even my 9th gen it isn't safe on.. I know I've done it on a previous truck.
