So decided I wanted to black out my truck even more but not pay for the appearance package rims. So I sprayed on some plastic instead. It's nice flat black, says its chip proof, and is supposed to peel off if you don't like it. Took about 2 hours and 2 cans, next time would use 3. Make sure you clean those rims really good before.

very nice! i did my rims last weekend. I used a full can on each wheel. the more coats you put on the easier it is to peel off.

It says on the can that it is chip proof. I've had it on my truck and my buddy's truck for months on the emblems and badges. It's holding up great with the pressure washer and gravel road. This is the first time I've done the rims now. I can definitely say don't be afraid to put it on thick on the rims, 8 or 10 coats, wait 10 or 20 minutes between coats. Then minimum 4 hours to dry. It feels rubbery or soft for a little while then gets harder. If you decide to take it off you just scratch at it tell you get a chunk and then pull and it will really stretch out and come off. It's like the same stuff they dip tool handles into. Check it out on YouTube.

Plasti-dip is neat stuff. I've had the rims, grille and emblems dipped on my truck for almost two years now..

Some quick tips as I've dipped about 10 sets of rims in a few different colors..

Minimum of 3-4 coats.. I like to apply 4-5 coats. No need at all to apply any more than 7-8 coats. after about 5-6 coats ur starting to waste it. First 1-2 coats need to applied thin and ever coat after apply it thicker until covered.

Do not try and cover it all at once. Plasti dip is a rubber based spray it needs to settle in between coats to be able to lay smooth and even..

If u apply any color besides black u need to have a base coat of white to make it look like its true color.. If not it will be a few shades off..

U can pressure wash the dipped rims to clean them.. I wouldn't scrub on them. I always spray some type of cleaner on and use a rag to kinda wipe down the hard to reach areas and pressure wash them clean..

I have found a few types of tire shine that acts bad towards the dip.. Causing it to bubble and wipe right off..

What brand what ? Tire Shine?

Well I've always applied gel tire shine where u have to hand rub it on no issues .. I ran out once and used the spray and that's where I discovered the negative effects it had on plasti dip. the over spray caused the dip to get soft and become wet and just wipe off like u just sprayed it on.. I would stay away from spray tire shines unless u can completely keep it off the rims..

Lol yes holds up great.. My wheels have been dipped for almost two years..

I've actually done a set of pink wheels.. One major tip use a white base coat before applying the pink if u don't the pink won't come out true to its color.. The rims I did came out with more of a red/orangish tone..

Plasti dip works really well. I sprayed my bumper before winter and it's been through so many storm and mud and still looks great

Whatever you do don't wash the wheels with a wash mitt. You'll never get the fuzz off! I had mine done and it lasted a long time. I just used full strength purple power and sprayed them very carefully with my power washer. Then sprayed a thin coat of tire shine on em when I did the tires.

Was it pretty chip resistant like everyone says?

RhinoZ24

Cause being able to peel it off, but having it be chip resistant just doesn't seem right to me.

I drive gravel roads daily. Unless you're driving through a pile of rocks I don't think you have to worry about a chip.

If you do get a nick in it just spray over it. That's what I did. BUT if you get new tires put on you can expect to be re-doing all of it. And I'd suggest covering the tires when you do it cause its not as easy as everyone says to just "peel" it off tires. Mine was done a year ago and that sh*t is still on my old tires even with scrubbing and power washing them

BFEB

I got mine at lowes. Also I think oreilly, ace hardware, and autozone have it too. They make a clear coat for it too. Side note...does anyone else have a problem with typing in the app, pretty sure the space bar is up a little bit cause I keep missing the damn thing!

masonic

I have some issues on my iPhone. As for doing the rims I used tape on the tires for overspray. I assumed it would not come off nice rubber on rubber. Also IMO every rim not black or chrome is ugly.

And the stuff dries but it doesn't turn into a hard plastic shell that breaks chips out like a piece of glass. It's tough enough to not let anything stick into it, but soft enough to absorb an impact and still keep its smooth shape.

iPhone 5. And I think I know why..the screen is slightly larger than before and that extra space is the problem I'm guessing. Has the app not been updated to support iPhone 5?

RhinoZ24

I have the 5 and the app works fine, but you are right when you say there's a space due to the larger screen size. Not a huge deal to me. It would be nice to fill the screen tho.
