What year truck and how many miles? And it might be a faulty transfer case. It may have kicked in, but may not be delivering the power.

Ok, so the transfer case engage and the driveshaft spins, but no tires spinning? It would have to be gears in the front differentials then. That's all I could think of with that. How many miles do you think it has while driving in 4x4 out of those 200k currently on it?

I think the hubs arent engaging ever thing spins to the wheels. But I dont know how to test those vac solonoids

It's got to be something to do with engaging front axles weather it's electrical or vaccum actuated! Don't know the set up on that year but I would start there. It helps to get a manual to see diagrams on elec. and vacc!

I just experienced some crazy grinding noise from the front end. I checked the iwe hoses seem pretty good. But when the noise came on I switched to 4x4 hi and noise went away. Anyone can help me

It's 06 f150. Umm I just bought it from a dealer preowned so all the maint been up to date. And I'm kind of new with the ford so I'm a rookie lol. But when the noise came on today I put it in 4x4 and the noise went away.

So it's only occurring in 2wd then?

Yes

Ok, it could be that 4wd is not disengaging fully, somewhere in the front axle most likely, hence the grinding sound.

Well first things first. Take it back to ur dealer and inform them.
But grinding can be a few things. Brakes, hubs, axle, gears. I'm sure it's something minor. How long have u had it? Like did u just get it? Can u take it to them with a prob? Do they have a shop? Can they diagnose?

Brakes don't seem like it cause he said it goes away while in 4x4, sounds more like something to do with the gears in the front axle.

I got dealer warranty and ext warranty. I'm calling them today hopefully they can figure it out. But I only ha the truck for 3 weeks the day I pick it up truck made that noise for 10 sec I pulled over check underneath wheel wells everything seem fine so I started to drive again truck was perfect. I thought it was bc they washed the engine and water got in some stuff so i didnt think anything of it Now 2 weeks later (yesterday ) noise came back at this point I put it in 4x4 noise went away so I put back to 2 wheel drive truck was good. You I just need some idea to what to tell them when I call them cuz my luck the noise won't come back for them and they won't do anything

Well cuz. Tell em that. U heard it once b4 when u took delivary and it happined so fast u didn't know if u ran something over or it was the truck. And that it duplicated itself. If they give u crap. U tel em man. U tell them u bought a quality vehicle that u thought was sold to u in a high standard. Honor that standard or u will have to move in another direction.

Ok bro, I've been having the same problem, but mine is that they aren't engaging. See the hubs if its vac have little ears that pull and push them into gear when you flip the switch. If those ears break and fall into the hub then you will hear some grinding or noise when you drive regardless of it being in 4wd. Have them check those ears or 'dogs' as they are referred to. If its having a problem disengaging it could be the same problem mine usually has. I just think for the moment mine is easier to stop for a moment and let it disengage or engage and drive on. Mine will engage if I stop for a sec and let it go in. Seems like yours is doing the same thing but in reverse. If that's not the fix to your problem then have check the vac system. Wiring, hoses, etc. That would be the only thing I can think of. Hope this helps!
