I wonder if anyone out there can solve this one. 2010 F-150 XLT Crew. 4.6L V8 4X4 86,000 km. When I refuel , whether its 20 bucks worth or a full tank, the truck will not start normally. I release the key from the start position to ignition on position and the starter stays engaged until I switch it off but no start. I can start the vehicle only by flooring it while cranking and I have to goose the gas pedal for about 10 seconds to keep it from quitting. I have to keep the rpms up for about 30 seconds once it starts. After I ease the rpms down to a normal idle, the problem disappears until I refuel. My tech has scanned it and has air blown out a plugged line. Didn't work. Anyone?

If I’m reading this right, you release the key from the start position and the starter STAYS engaged? I’d look into the ignition switch


As for the hard start after refueling, check fuel pressure. I have an idea, is the evap purge line hooked up to the manifold? If so, remove it and look for fuel. You can’t smell because it deals with gas vapors. If you see raw fuel you have a problem with the evap system. If no raw fuel, add some hose and route the line to the ground. Cap the vacuum port on the manifold and put a little gas in it. If s puddle forms under the truck, evap system needs checked out. If not, and it still hard starts then we need to look at live data for more info.

I too am a little confused about the starter part. Is the starter motor staying engaged? Or is that just your wording about trying to get it running. If this problem only rears itself when you fill up with fuel, then yes it sounds like one of the components in the Evap system is bad. Definitely run codes first.

I had a similar issue on my Focus. When fueling. Would start, then stutter. was hit or miss if it would shut off

Wound up being an evap hose.
