My truck has 70 k on it do not know maintaince record of last owner..nor do i know condition of plugs or wiring..anything i should have checked..or how often should plugs be changed.

Platniums are good for up to 80K, my last set were changed out at 120K. I wouldn't change COPs or wires unless they're actually broken or arcing. Fuel filter and air filter are cheap and easy insurance. Oil and filter as you know, and then trannie flush and diff fluid change might be on your list the coming year.

Where is fuel filter located on these trucks? Schrader valve? And what tools are needed

----------

And what brand of air filter

RhinoZ24

The fuel filter is located just infront of the fuel tank, look underneath your truck and follow the fuel line from the fuel tank to the engine. You will see a bracket holdning in a cylinder about 4 inches long. That is your fuel filter, and you can get fuel filter clips for like $10 from a parts store. That is all that is needed to change it, besides a new filter of course, and there are plenty of videos on youtube for the process, I just did mine and it was seriously a 5 minute job. And it doesn't really matter for air filter, your preference I guess, I recommend K&N or Fram as they are both very good filters.

I dont likd ghe oiling ritual of a k&n if anyine has a easy clean and oil method inform me.

My '00 150s fuel filter is on the inside of the frame under the driver door. U will need the special Ford fuel line tool-$5 pepboys. The filter is $10. I put a fram air filter in mine. No oil required.

Get a dry air filter, they are cheap and easy to replace.

Like I said, your preference, I like dry better as well, less maintainence.

It's the same for the '05's as well, same location. And yeah, pretty cheap for the little clips you need to disconnect the fuel line from the filter.
WARNING: however, when you disconnect the fuel line from the filter make sure you are on the side of the engine and not the fuel tank as unless you release the pressure in the line before hand, it WILL spray gas out at you until the pressure is relieved. Don't take a gas bath like me lol.

I just did my fuel filter and to relieve the pressure take gas cap off. Only gas that came out was what was left in the filter

Raptor05121
02-04-2013, 06:09 PM
Taking the gas cap off isnt going to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines- they are pressurized by the fuel pump

tigers09
02-04-2013, 06:47 PM
Oh we'll that's why I got told to do. My bad but it still didn't spray everywhere. Like everyone said it would

Raptor05121
02-04-2013, 07:46 PM
To relieve the pressure, there is a Schraeder valve located on the fuel rail in the engine bay. But even then, the low pressure of the fuel lines won't spray, just drop a couple cups of fuel on you.

RhinoZ24
02-05-2013, 12:52 AM
Or in my case bathe me in it lol.

Jersey_Joe
02-05-2013, 04:48 AM
Lol. That bad kid?!? Really? I don't think I've had a prob ever changing my filter. Hahaha. U got bathed?? Lmao

pjohnston

When I did mine i didnt mess with the Schrader valve. The line never sprayed, just dropped all over me.

RhinoZ24

Yeah, cause stupid me thought the pressure would be coming from the tank, not the filter, so I was on the wrong side and got drenched with gas haha. I needed one of those signs that says no smoking within 50 feet after that lol.

Don't feel bad, same thing happened to me. I was smart enough to wear safety glasses, however. I'm blind in one eye so I don't need to lose the other one!

Jersey_Joe
02-05-2013, 11:34 AM
No ur not. Really?

RhinoZ24
02-05-2013, 12:59 PM
Well, I burned out my eyes when I first took it off, it sprayed right in them lol. I wasn't smart enough to think of safety glasses beforehand haha.

Jersey_Joe
02-05-2013, 02:07 PM
Safety first!!

RhinoZ24
02-05-2013, 02:12 PM
Haha, not that time lol. But I learned my lesson the hard way and will do that next time lol.

Jersey_Joe
02-05-2013, 02:13 PM
Good boy. Lol

Raptor05121

Yup. 20/10 in the left eye, 20/250 in the right. I remeber when the doc first found it, he came in and sat down and told me: "well you will never be a pilot or a firefighter"

I'm still a firefighter and I'll have my plane flying by the end of the year

I'm legally blind without any correction (contacts/glasses) and I've had my contacts save my sight a few times now. I've learned the safety glasses lesson a few too many times now I rarely do anything that may spray or have debris without eye protection.

Same here, just not as bad. 20/20 in the left, 20/40ish in the right. Ruined my hopes of being a pilot in the Airforce, ironically I always to fly the F-22 Raptor lol.

I drove an aluminum nail into my filter to bleed the pressure, worked great. Oh yeah, wear safety glasses.

Jersey_Joe
02-05-2013, 05:44 PM
Lmao. At a boy. Lmao

RhinoZ24
02-05-2013, 08:03 PM
Why does fire come to mind with that? Lol

Jersey_Joe
02-05-2013, 08:24 PM
No spark no fire. Lol

Raptor05121
02-05-2013, 08:39 PM
Even if you did manage to spark it, the mixture would be too rich to catch. All that fuel dumping on it would just smother the spark.

TritonBullet

Truck runs great..little shake at idle but i guess thats normal. Other than that no issue from where i can think smell would come from.

RhinoZ24
02-05-2013, 10:19 PM
Rough idle? Run some fuel system cleaner through it next fill up, use Lucas or Gumout, it won't fix it for good, but it'll help it a bit.

TritonBullet
02-05-2013, 11:06 PM
I put lucas in..running it thru tank now. I think i may have a limp plug

RhinoZ24
02-06-2013, 12:52 AM
Possibly, but it's almost a normal thing for the rough idle, my truck does it when the engine gets really hot.

TritonBullet
02-06-2013, 01:08 AM
It dont really bother me lol

RhinoZ24
02-06-2013, 01:12 AM
Exactly, I just got used to it lol

TritonBullet

Seems to be eating gas heavily lately..hmm oh well.

RhinoZ24
02-06-2013, 02:30 AM
It's a V8 lol, big step up from your Ranger. What's the mileage at currently though?

TritonBullet
02-06-2013, 11:16 AM
Im not sure have not calculated it..actually havent filled truck up yet.

RhinoZ24
02-06-2013, 12:57 PM
Alright, after you fill it up, calculate the next tank and let us know. If your truck is all stock, with the 5.4L, you should be getting about 12 mpg city and about 16-17 mpg highway, and around 13-15 combined(these numbers depend on how you drive, lead foot or lightfoot lol, could be slightly higher or lower).

TritonBullet
02-06-2013, 01:51 PM
Very light foot lol

RhinoZ24
02-06-2013, 06:33 PM
Good haha especially with gas going up again. Yeah just calculate it and let us know.

encfxxx4
02-06-2013, 08:50 PM
I'm gettin 18 with light foot

RhinoZ24
02-06-2013, 11:00 PM
Lucky you, I get stuck with city, plus a lead foot, plus winter grade gas, so I'm getting 12 lol.

BFEB
02-07-2013, 07:20 AM
18 is pretty dang good. I was lucky to get 16 out of my old 5.4 on an all highway trip.

encfxxx4
02-07-2013, 09:03 AM
That's with me driving like a old man! Lol I drive the speed limit when I can

RhinoZ24
02-07-2013, 12:33 PM
Haha, I try to, just never works out lol.

encfxxx4
02-07-2013, 01:08 PM
I don't do it all the time! I do it to out do my brother ( Chevy)

Raptor05121
02-07-2013, 01:13 PM
I haven't calculated my MPGs in about a year. I don't make enough money to fill her up.

RhinoZ24
02-07-2013, 01:50 PM
Haha, it's a good thing you have the V6 then lol.

Jersey_Joe
02-07-2013, 02:48 PM
Alex. Ur gonna make bank one day like most of us have ever seen. Ull be able to buy a whole truck full

encfxxx4
02-07-2013, 03:18 PM
The v6 is about the same really I drove one as a company truck for a year ( the money you didn't spend in gas you got to keep) got a v8 did about the same !
