Went to put gas in my truck and my Dad said " I wonder since the motor is a high output should you use 93 octane?" I replied " Not sure but would be nice to know." Any ideas?..

Its just cleaner gas..high output has nothing to do with fuel ita the motors capacity to make power and how much it can put out. Is running 93 okay..yes..but if ford says it runs on good ol 87 use it.

Octane is a gasoline's resistance to burn. Higher compression engines need higher octane. If your engine calls for 87- give it 87. Some people think that higher octane will give better MPGs, HP (more info on this later), and temps. All of this is untrue. However, if you have a programmer, or a new generation truck that can sense a change in octane, the timing can be advanced, as well as the spark, to give more power on higher octane. However, you have to have the right truck/equipment. Simply putting it in won't do it.

tl;dr- If your truck calls for 87, stick to it.

93 is a waste unless you've bumped the compression up considerably..

Well that is not entirely true. When ur driving something that has some considerable power it needs the octane. My 03 150 has 522 at the crank runs terrible on anything less than 91. No matter how I tune it. My 2010 Shelby GT 500 has over 1000 hp 880 at the wheels. It needs all she can get. Better fuel milage when drivin text book and also keeps your internals a little cleaner
But yes a high compression engine does need more octane

Professor I know ur gonna eat me up. But with my configurations I run better with a higher octane truck and car Harley and my dirt bike
My 03 FX4 150 has 522
18-20 mpg. Granted it was summer and all highway
And runs a 13.1. 005 reaction at about 120
With ten ply tires
Alex I'm comin to ur shop. My 500 and fx4 r doin pretty good in my eyes
You r more than welcome to throw your geniusness under my hoods any day. Can only get better bud! and make me a set of ur headlights. Ill pay ya. Parts and labor. What ev u want. They look mean

Joe, you are exactly right. Your truck is making considerable power and needs to octane. For the regular jo-blow who has a stock F-150, 87 is the best choice. My dad's Harley runs like chit on 87, he runs 93 in it and my airplane calls for 100LL aviation gasoline, although I have modified it to run on 93 auto gas (auto gas is MUCH CHEAPER!)

Oh yeah! 108 here is way up there

But I agree something stock should b able to run on 87. And u got ur plane to run on 93? Ha. That's awesome
