I guess I'm open to anything. Never had one before but a buddy had an edge so I've seen the results of theirs at least.

From what I've seen the 5 stars seem to be pretty highly wanted. How much did that run?

I guess for my needs I don't really need any custom tunes or anything. Was more so looking to just help with shift firmness and throttle response. I'm pretty new to programmers if you couldn't tell.

----------

How much does a basic package from 5 star usually run?

anaheim_drew

Because you are new to mods, I suggest you start by learning about programmers and what they can and can't do.

Also, for a used tuner what would be a better one to look for? An x2, x3? I don't know much on brands and all that so help is appreciated.

----------

I see where you're coming from. I've got a question I should ask though. I've consulted some other ford owners about it who have the phaser tick and I was curious on your guys take. Would it be a dumb idea to get a tuner if I have my phasers ticking?

anaheim_drew

X3 is good for a used tuner

Lucas, welcome to the forum. The first issue is we know nothing about your truck. Post some basic info about it. How long have you had it, year, miles condition etc. Then we can move on to mods.

----------

Cam phaser tick has nothing to do with buying a tuner.

06 f150 King Ranch. 160k miles, well taken care of. Good shape. I've had it just over a year now. Here's a few pics of what I'm driving.

Are you sure it's an 06 and not an 05?

The reason I asked is that there was a fog light change in 2006. 2006 had round fog lights

Schultzy34
09-29-2015, 12:23 AM
I see what you mean but yea its an 06. I guess I never even noticed that before.

Also It wasn't in an accident I know of but I've also only had it for a year and don't know the full records but nothing on the Carfax for it or anything so it was not reported if it was.

That's where I've been learning most of the info on it. So for someone like me who is not very familiar with mods, how would I get into a programmer and learn the finer points

I have read quite a bit on them I guess I'm just not very familiar with them since I seem to understand things better as I do or use them. Oh and a note back to the question I had on the cam phaser tick being a problem to having a programmer, a buddy of mine knows vehicles quite well and told me I should have them fixed before ever thinking of putting a programmer in. So I'm slightly hesitant.

After I posted. I really read and it looks like I'm being a smart @$$. By no means. That dude gives a f about someone knowing facts. I respect that above all. I hope to on day build an awesome fast something with that dude. But yes. The thought counts. Unless it's drew. Then the facts count. Lol

Lol yea but facts plus the thought is twice as nice. I'm interested in putting a tuner in but for me I was thinking of just getting a preloaded one so its more a plug n play with the added benefits for someone not skilled in running a more complex one.

----------

The one thing I love about these sites is that everyone seems to be there to help, whether it be to their opinion on a matter or just straight facts.

I hear u. But listen. It's not rocket science. Call 5*. Why? Why u talk to them. They ask u. "What do u want to get out of your truck?" U tell them. And they make custom tunes based on what "u" want. They get u hype that's for sure. They treat u like family after the purchase that's Fer sure
