Hello. I'm about to get my first truck and I wanted some suggestions on how to improve gas milage, sound and horsepower. It's a 1999 f-150 Lariat 6cyl.

I just want to figure out what I should buy for to to improve performance.

Welcome to the forum! And for the 4.2L V6, the professor is your man for performance. His Screen name on here is Raptor05121, has a 4.2L in a 98 I believe. But some basic stuff for you would be an exhaust system for sound and performance, an intake system, and you might want to think about a programmer to wake up your engine a bit.

Not a 100% on this but I don't think they offered a lariat in a v6, u might want to look under the hood again lol

My bad. It's a v8. And what brands of exhaust systems are good?

Personally I'm a Flowmaster guy, but some other good brands are Magnaflow, Dynomax, and MBRP. If you're willing to spend a lot though, go with Roush or Banks. What size V8, the 4.6L or the 5.4L?

I'm looking at the Flowmaster Cat-Back System 409S - Dual Rear/Side Exit - Force II right now. Is that any good?

Yeah, it's just depends on what muffler you get and how loud you want it to be. What muffler does it come with, the 50 Series?

Here's a chart to help you out for sound, I have the American Thunder Cat-Back system on mine, dual side exit with the 40 Series and I love it, nice and loud.

Me too. I also have the super 44. With headers. Its loud. I'd like it louder. My next muffler will b the flowmaster super 10. I love the 44. Just want a little but more aggression keeps the tundras and hemis away. There scared

My nearly stock 4.6L truck ate my friends lifted and heavily modded 5.7L Tundra when we raced haha.

I found a supper 44 that has a 2.5 inch inlet center but the muffler in the diagram for my system has the inlet offset. Does that matter?

What muffler comes with your system originally, the 50 series? And it shouldn't matter. Ask Joe though lol.

YEAh, it looks like the 50 series

And I also found out that its an 03, not a 99

Oh, yeah, that might help lol. Although the setup should be the same as the body styles were the same for those years. Order off of either Autoanything.com, or directly from Flowmaster as that'll ensure you get the right fit.

Yes it does matter. Flowmaster has west coast hrs. Call them in the mourning and they will help I out. Good people over there
