How to disable running lamps

Trying to figure out how to disable the daytime running lamps on a 2005 xl. Fuse removal is not an option.

If you open your hood, the driver's side will have a relay box. In your owner's manual or a repair manual there should be 2 diagrams for a truck with DRL's and one without. Remove the component shown in the one with the DRL'S and not shown in the one without it. It's just a resistor and your normal low an high beams will still function properly by means of the headlamp switch.
